Black pregnant woman, nourished and at home in her body

The moment you learn you are pregnant, something ancient activates in you. Your body knows things your mind has not yet caught up with. You deserve support that meets you there, not at the hospital door.

A doula does not replace your OB or midwife. She completes your care team. Our doulas hold the emotional and relational territory that clinical medicine was never designed to hold. We translate, advocate, remember, and stay.

The Wise Womb offers contemplative, evidence-informed doula care that honors the full arc of your becoming: biological, psychological, social, spiritual. We call this the biopsychosocial approach because the whole person deserves to be tended.

Nurse  ·  Contemplative Postpartum Guide  ·  Doula  ·  Mom & Bibi

I am a mother of two and a grandmother. I came to this work because I know, from the inside, what it feels like to move through pregnancy and birth without enough hands around you. That is the root of everything I do.

With 29 years of licensed nursing practice, doctoral training in clinical psychology, and over three decades of embodied work in women's health, I bring a depth to this care that is both clinically rigorous and deeply human. Originally from Brooklyn, I now serve families across Southern and Northern California, in person and by telehealth.

Our team specializes in the postpartum period, the interior territory that follows birth: identity, embodiment, and becoming. We bridge the wisdom of multiple contemplative traditions with evidence-informed perinatal care, because mothers deserve both.

The framework

We tend the whole person.
Always.

The biopsychosocial model recognizes that your health is not just physical. It is shaped by your mind, your relationships, your culture, your history, and the world you move through. Our care is organized around all three dimensions, and the contemplative layer that holds them together.

Biological
Your body,
tended
Physical healing, nervous system regulation, nourishment, lactation, sleep, and somatic recovery. Your body did extraordinary work. It deserves extraordinary care.
Psychological
Your inner
world, held
Perinatal mood and emotional wellbeing, matrescence (the psychological birth of the mother), identity shifts, anxiety, grief, and the full range of becoming. We hold space for it all without clinical distance.
Social
Your roots,
honored
Cultural traditions, ancestral lineages, family systems, community, and the relational web that holds a new life. Your heritage is not incidental to your care. It is central to it.

Woven through
every single visit.

Each of the 21 touchpoints is mapped to these pillars. Nothing essential to your becoming gets left behind. These are not categories. They are a way of seeing you whole.

01
Nervous System & Body
Regulating the maternal stress response so healing and bonding can unfold without interference. Somatic practices, breathwork, and physical tending.
Biological
02
Attachment & Bonding
Supporting the biological and emotional blueprint of the first thousand hours between you and your baby. Presence, attunement, and repair.
Biological + Psychological
03
Nourishment & Restoration
Ancestral warming foods, herbal traditions, hydration, and feeding support tailored to tissue repair and lactation. The body heals what it is fed.
Biological + Cultural
04
Cultural & Ancestral Care
Honoring the lineages, traditions, and communal practices that ground you as a parent. Your ancestors knew how to care for mothers. We remember with you.
Social + Spiritual
05
Matrescence & Becoming
The psychological and spiritual metamorphosis from individual to mother, witnessed with professional care. This is not a side effect of birth. This is the birth.
Psychological + Contemplative

★★★★★

"I was terrified. I had a high-risk pregnancy, a previous loss, and no one in my family who had done this without serious complications. Jylani held me like she already knew me. She never rushed a single visit. She was there when the moment came and I finally felt what it is to not be alone in a hospital room."

"The fourth trimester almost broke me. I did not know what was happening to my body or my identity. My OB checked my stitches and sent me home. Jylani was the one who sat with me on my kitchen floor, helped me find my breath, and told me I was not falling apart. I was becoming. I needed that more than I knew."

Maya S. Postpartum support · Oakland
★★★★★

"We went through two years of IVF before our daughter arrived. By the time I was pregnant, I was already exhausted and already grieving the pregnancies we lost. Jylani held all of that with us. She never treated our joy as simple or our fear as irrational. She understood the whole story."

Kezia O. Fertility journey + birth · San Diego
★★★★★

"As a young, single mother, I walked into this feeling like I was asking for too much. Jylani reminded me that I was not asking for anything that every mother does not deserve. Her calm made me calm. Her knowledge made me confident. I gave birth without panic, and that is everything."

Mother
Blessings

A Mother Blessing is a ceremony of pampering, adorning, and showering the mother-to-be with love and support. It is, in essence, a more nourishing baby shower. These tender, unforgettable moments encourage mothers to birth with less fear and feel better held in the postpartum period.

This ceremony is inspired by the Diné (Navajo) Blessingway tradition. We hold deep respect for its roots and offer this space with reverence, gratitude, and full acknowledgment of the lineage from which it comes.

This is Jylani's favorite offering. There is nothing quite like watching a woman receive what she has been giving to everyone else.

In-person facilitation available in Southern and Northern California. Virtual ceremonies also offered. Fill out the interest form to inquire.
